About Us
The History of HillsideIn early 1981, Hillside was conceived in the hearts of two young ministers. Rev. Joe Jakum and Rev. Patrick Mahoney believed that God wanted to do something unique in Bristol, CT and in October of that year, Hillside began as New Covenant Church at Jennings School. Over the years, many families had found a renewed and dynamic love for God here, but there was still something missing.
We didn't want to be just another selection on the menu of churches in the Bristol area. We realized that we could do more to be hospitable to visitors, skeptics and seekers. We wanted our church to have a larger impact on the community and in the lives of those we ministered to. Questions haunted us, like: How many marriages could be saved, or addicts set free? How many empty or lonely lives could be filled to overflowing if they just knew better the God that loves them?
After taking these questions to heart, things began to change. New Covenant became Hillside Community Church and a new vision was embraced. Hillside has since grown and is poised for even more explosive growth. More and more people are discovering a deeper, more intimate and rewarding relationship with God than they even thought possible for them. Children and teens are enjoying church so much, they're dragging their parents along!
We hope your visit with us will show you that Hillside is a unique place where you can discover a relationship with God at your own pace in a loving, supportive and casual atmosphere. We exist for the sole purpose of helping you along in your spiritual journey. You matter very much to God, and you matter to us. Please let us know how we can help you.
